Holbox Island

Holbox is a beautiful island located north of Quintana Roo, belonging to the municipality of Lázaro Cárdenas. This incredible island has a territorial extension of 40 kilometers long, approximately 3 kilometers wide and also has 35 kilometers of white sand beach and shallow coral waters.

Normally when we talk about the Mexican Caribbean we automatically think of Cancun, Playa del Carmen and certainly the entire Riviera Maya, however the Yucatan Peninsula also has incredible places that can offer us the best experience and without a doubt one of those places is this beautiful island .

This island is part of the biosphere reserve and the Yum Balam Flora and Fauna Protection Area, an extensive maritime area full of low jungles and mangroves. In this area an extensive list of endemic birds, the whale shark, dolphins, manta rays, manatees and otters, as well as species such as jaguars, pumas, tapirs, among others, are protected.

Something incredible about Holbox, is that the beaches are almost untouched and little frequented, so if you are looking for a vacation in a space where tranquility stands out above all, this is definitely the ideal place.

Holbox has different hotels that have a low tourist impact, for this reason it is a little frequented area.

To get to Holbox, you must first take a bus to Chiquilá, there are only three departures in Cancun from Monday to Sunday: 7:50 am, 10:50 am and 12:50 pm. If you want to get there from another area, it is best to take a bus to the bus terminal in Cancún first and then go to Chiquilá, although the distance and your departure location vary.

Once at the Chiquilá dock, there are round trips by ferry to Holbox, with an approximate cost of 180 Mexican pesos.

Some tourists who have already visited this island recommend taking bicycles, because this way the route is easier and less tired, also on two wheels you can visit more places and enjoy peacefully the nature and beauty that this place offers.
