How to protect my home from a hurricane
While all homes should be built with materials that will withstand natural disasters, caution should always be taken against hurricane alerts, especially if we are in a hurricane season.
The reality in which we live today forces us to take precautions and protect our homes from hurricanes, here are some tips that will serve to protect your home:
• Make a protection plan in case of emergencies and have addresses of nearby shelters.
• Reinforcing doors and windows, especially if they are made of glass, can be covered with sheets of wood, it is a question of protecting all entry and exit points that can give access to wind and water.
• Cut trees if they surround the house or fall into the house. Another option is to tie them up, just like everything you have on the roof and the surroundings.
• Make sure that the drains of the roof, yard and sewers are not covered with trash, this phenomenon can put 5 to 20 inches of water in 24 hours.
• Check your home's structural connections with time.
• Bring everything you have outdoors (tables, chairs, tubes, etc.) to your home.
• If you feel that your home will not withstand a hurricane, prepare evacuation plans and find out about shelters.
• Prepare emergency supplies such as: medicines, water bottles, canned food, radio batteries, flashlights, plastic bags, etc.
• Prepare a supply of water for personal hygiene and cleaning.
• It is advisable to protect your assets through home insurance that has coverage against natural disasters, as it is the only way to avoid economic losses.
It is important to keep the whole family and pets together at such times.
