VEHICLE REGISTRATION FOR FOREIGN NATIONALS IN QUINTANA ROO

Foreign nationals domiciled in Quintana Roo and the owners of a Mexican motor vehicle are entitled to register in their name in any of the Departments of Vehicles of the state without the Unique Certificate of Population Registration. However the Department of Vehicle offices throughout the state continue to reject foreigners who wish to register a vehicle in their name when they do not have the CURP, number similar to the social security identification number.

With so many foreigners living in Quintana Roo, much remains to be done before the government changes its policies. More people must exercise their right and obligation to own a vehicle and register it and we can help.

From the legal point of view, here are some tips before buying a vehicle in Mexico: Make sure all documents are in order and that payments are up to date, physically check the VIN number, obtaining a sales invoice and if the vehicle title is a digital invoice known as a CFDI ("digital tax receipt online") issued by a car dealer to a natural or legal person, does not accept an endorsement in the printing of said CFDI .
